QUESTION

Col. Kennedy,

I walk in the oval across from the Rushmore center on nice days and without exaggerating at least once a day someone blows right through the cross walk even when you are in it. Today I was half across and had to jump back because some guy in a green pickup ran right through it I know he saw me since I was looking right at him and I had on a bright yellow "28 CPTS moral shirt". He did not even try to slow down or even acknowledge he cared. One of these days someone is going to be hit, I know a lot of older ladies cross there to walk on nice days and it is not safe.

  RESPONSE

Thank you for raising your concerns.  I've asked our 28th Security Forces Squadron to pay some additional attention to this area and other crosswalks around the base.  Specific to crossing near the Rushmore Center, it is a bit of a challenge to cross in this area as it is not intuitive that there is a crosswalk across the four-lane road.  We are exploring options for better signage to identify the crosswalk more clearly.  Again, thank you for bringing this to my attention.  We have a few places on the base that personnel and vehicles interact and everyone on base, especially drivers, must be especially vigilant to make sure someone is not injured.
