The Powder River Training Complex (PRTC) officially opened Sept. 17 upon its charting by the FAA, and military flying operations began Sept. 18.
Timeline of Events
The Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the Powder River Training Complex (PRTC) proposed airspace expansion was completed Nov. 28, 2014, when the Air Force issued a notice of availability for the FEIS in the Federal Register. This released the FEIS for public viewing and review. The Air Force then had no less than 30 days after NOA was released to issue a Record of Decision on the proposed action. The Air Force issued its ROD Jan. 16, 2015, approving the proposed airspace, and this was the final action taken by the Air Force. Subsequently, the FAA issued its own Record of Decision March 24, 2015. Together, the two records represent the final step before publication of the charts and procedures that allowed military aviators to use the Powder River Training airspace.
