Base Tours

Base tours tell a portion of the Air Force story to visitors and highlight the Air Force mission, traditions and heritage. They are tailored to coincide with the interests of different age groups.  Requests are granted on a first come, first served basis.

Policy:

  • Tours will not be coordinated until all information has been approved by 28th Bomb Wing Public Affairs. 
  • Tours are conducted on the 2nd and 3rd Tuesday from April 1 to November 1. Tour times are 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Tour groups must be no more than 40 people, and the minimum age is 12 years old.
  • Meal options:
    • The Raider Cafe Dining Facility accepts cash and credit/debit cards. Your group may pay all together by using a specific line when checking out. You can not pay in advance.
    • We are able to cater local restaurants at your request, payment must be in advance to the local restaurant by credit/debit card or cash.
    • Groups can bring bag lunches and choose to eat outside at the base lakes if weather is permitting.

Requesting a Base Tour:

  • Please fill in the Tour Request Form and send no earlier than 90 days and no later than 30 days prior to the requested tour date. A list of all individuals attending the tour must be submitted for security purposes. Please provide the following data for each guest and send along with the tour request form to 28BW.Public.Affairs@us.af.mil:
    • First and last name
    • Date of birth
    • Driver's license number and issuing state
    • Phone number
  • Tours will not be approved/coordinated until all information is received.
  • If Public Affairs hasn't confirmed receiving your request within a week of submission, please follow up by phone, (605) 385-5056. Sending/receiving a request form does not confirm your tour date.
  • ROTC and JROTC in uniform are expected to conform to the Air Force dress and appearance standards including haircuts and hair styles.
  • If a group is more than 15 minutes late for the tour, it will be cancelled and will not be rescheduled.
  • All tours are picked up from the South Dakota Air and Space Museum, located at 2890 Davis Dr, Ellsworth Air Force Base, SD 57706.
  • ELLSWORTH AFB RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CANCEL CONFIRMED TOURS AT ANY TIME DUE TO MISSION REQUIREMENTS.
