Colonel,
I am aware that the manning at the base education office has been decreased over the past few months due to position cuts across the Air Force. Over the past few weeks I have had multiple Airmen approach me for educational assistance which I am glad to provide if I am able to. Some of these questions however, require the assistance of the base education office and outside organizations. On multiple occasions I have tried to contact the office, but the phone often goes unanswered and emails sometimes take a few days turn around. Also some of the programs such as CCAF and commissioning have you contact your base education office for more information, which further bogs down the system. As a new semester approaches I only foresee this problem getting worse when large amounts of TA applications begin to flow in. I have brought the issue up and see that it is a wide known problem. Is there a plan to fix this issue so that we can get the educational assistance that our Airmen need? Thank you for your time.

Yes, the Education Center is working on a plan to provide the needed educational support to our Airmen. In fact, we submitted a request to fill two vacant educational specialist positions. In addition, we trained our Force Development Specialist to fill in and answer phone calls and e-mails for the Education and Training Section. While we are sorry for the inconvenience this is causing you and other Airmen on Ellsworth we appreciate your patience as we work through this transition. In the interim, many education questions can be answered by going to the Air Force Virtual Education Center located on the Air Force Portal. Simply go to the AF Portal and on the left side of the homepage under "Top Portal Links" you will find "AFVEC-AF Virtual Education Center."
