Pet Question

QUESTION
Hello, sir. In this link (http://www.ellsworth.af.mil/shared/media/document/AFD-110428-045.pdf) from the base website it states that the commander says how many pets you can own in base housing, and or the property manager says how many pets you can own and what type. It does not state a number. I know in the base handbook that it states you can own two, four-legged animals, but it also states that the commander has the right to say how many and what type. I was wondering if you could clarify how many pets we are allowed to own in housing considering it is going privatized or is privatized (Prairie View). Are we allowed to ask permission to own more than two pets if we already have two strictly indoor animals, such as cats?

Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer my questions and clarify.

  RESPONSE
Both the housing brochure and paragraph 5.4 of the Ellsworth Specific Pet Policy document, viewable on the base housing website (http://www.ellsworth.af.mil/ellsworthhousing.asp) under "Additional Housing Resources" state: "Housing occupants are authorized a maximum of two pets (canine, feline, or one of each). You can have birds, aquarium fish, and small domesticated rodents (i.e., hamsters, gerbils and guinea pigs). Residents may not board exotic animals such as, but not limited to, reptiles, rodents (other than hamsters, gerbils and guinea pigs), ferrets, hedgehogs, skunks, rats, raccoons, squirrels, pot bellied pigs, monkeys, arachnids, or any farm animal."

This policy applies to current military family housing (Rushmore Estates and Prairie View) until privatized. The policy after privatization will be set by the project owner. For Centennial Estates, please refer to your lease agreement or contact the Centennial Rental Office at (605) 791-3181.

If you feel you truly have a unique situation, please submit your request in writing to the housing office for considerations.
