ID card renewal for dependents

ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. -- A sponsor may apply for renewal of a dependents' identification 10 to 20 days prior to expiration of the ID, per AFI 36-3026, paragraph 15.4.

The sponsor must be present to sign the DD form 1172, or may sign the DD Form 1172 prior to the dependant coming in. A general Power of Attorney will work for signing the sponsor's signature. Spouses and dependants 21 and older must have two forms of ID at the time of request for a new ID card.
