Spring sports seasons set to begin Published May 10, 2007 By Senior Airman Josh Moshier 28th Bomb Wing Public Affairs ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. -- Ellsworth's spring athletic schedule is less than a month away and will include six activities this year, including intramural golf and softball, and the recreational sports senior league softball, sand volleyball, paintball and horseshoes. Intramural sports are included in the Commander's Trophy competition and teams are assigned by squadron. Participants are not required to play with their squadron in recreational sports. People who are interested in playing an intramural sport and whose squadrons do not field a team may put their names into the players pool. Individuals in the players pool will be distributed among the registered teams in the league as needed. Golf and softball are tentatively scheduled to begin play May 21 and June 11, respectively. Senior league softball, sand volleyball and horseshoes are tentatively scheduled to begin July 9. Paintball will begin in mid-June. Regular and post-season schedules are determined by the number of teams registered and finalized during each sport's coaches meeting. Letters of intent to participate have already been submitted for golf, softball and senior league softball. LOIs for paintball are due May 25, and LOIs for sand volleyball and horseshoes are due June 14. People who wish to play any of the intramural or recreational sports should call their squadron sports representative (follow the "squadron sports representatives" link under the "related links" tab on this Web page for contact information) or Mr. Drab at 385-2264.
