Ellsworth members’ input is needed for the base’s Housing Require-ments and Market Analysis survey.

The short, Web-based survey is available Monday through March 6.

The purpose of this survey is to identify housing conditions today that can help forecast housing conditions in the future, said Col. Jeffry Smith, 28th Bomb Wing commander.

The HRMA process uses this information to make housing-requirement forecasts at Ellsworth through the next five years. Typic-ally, these surveys are conducted every three years.

“The survey held in 2002 revealed our inventory was 2,034 military family housing units. Of those, 1,006 units were considered inadequate and beyond economical repair. The survey result indicated our family housing requirement to be 1,338 units. Thus, a six-phase plan was developed, which involved removing 1,006 family housing units while constructing 310 units,” said Mr. Ronald Uecker, 28th Civil Engineer Squadron chief of housing assistance and facilities.

The new Rushmore Heights and Prairie View Estates housing units came as a direct result of the 2002 HRMA survey, said Mrs. Kary Hilliard, 28th Civil Engineer Squadron housing management assistant.

“A lot of people don’t know the policy for the Department of Defense is to look for housing outside the base first. This is why it’s so important for people off base to take the survey as well,” said Mrs. Hilliard.

The process will not only determine the quantity of housing but also the type of housing the government must provide for all military families in the area for the next five years.
