Education center awarded

ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, SD -- Ellsworth’s base training and education services (BTES) education center received the Air Combat Control Nathan Alts Chuler award Dec. 27.

This award was created to recognize the most outstanding base education services program for the year. Ellsworth’s BTES competed against all other education centers in ACC.

Now that the education center has won at the ACC level, it will move on to compete against all other major command winners at the Air Force level.

One of the traits that allowed Ellsworth’s education center to stand out among other competitors was their team’s ability to provide excellent customer service.

“We have a great team concept,” said Ms. Paula Walker BTES flight chief.

The BTES didn’t have a Community College of the Air Force counselor or test examiner for six months, yet the team managed to administer all tests during this period of time.

“We provide a full range of services even while short staffed,” said Mr. Dale Walker, education services officer.

The staff at the education center is set up so that everyone has a back-up. This “back-up” plan ensures that if someone is out, a customer will not be turned away because someone else can pick up the slack.

In addition to keeping customers happy, the BTES has also helped customers become more successful in completing their educational goals. This too made Ellsworth’s BTES stand out among their ACC competitors.

The education center increased its graduates by 23 percent, and the number of Air Force members to be fully trained in their career fields has gone up 12 percent, said Ms. Walker.

The28th Mission Support Squadron commander, Maj. Frank Battistelli, reiterated the importance of teamwork, customer service and educational goals in the BTES success.

“Teamwork was the key element in the BTES winning the best in ACC,” Maj. Battistelli said. “Each member of my BTES crew is committed to taking care of his customers, looking out for each other, and customer satisfaction. Education is important to all Airmen (officer and enlisted), and the BTES Team goes out of its way to ensure everyone has an opportunity to maximize their educational opportunities.”
