The 28th Medical Group Public Health office has updated the Public Health Advisory regarding the Zika virus, which include lists of symptoms and tips for preventing the virus.

The Zika virus is an emerging virus transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito and has now spread to 41 countries, including Bolivia, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Venezuela. It has a high potential for spreading in countries where mosquitos are present, and the CDC advises women who are pregnant to defer travel to areas of ongoing Zika virus transmissions.

No vaccine or specific medicine currently exists to prevent or treat Zika virus; however, safety precautions should be taken in areas where mosquitos are present, including wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants or use Department of Defense approved insect repellent.
