ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. -- Ellsworth’s iteration of the Combined Federal Campaign wrapped up this year’s fundraising, collecting more than $68,000 for local, national and international charities.
“The CFC is the best way, as a military member, to give back to the community,” said Capt. Spenser McIntyre, a B-1 Bomber pilot assigned to the 37th Bomb Squadron. “The money goes to CFC-approved charities that help those in need.”
Since its official creation by President Richard Nixon in 1971, the CFC has joined all federal fundraising into one united way to raise money within the federal service.
McIntyre was the 28th Bomb Wing representative for the campaign this year, and coordinated fundraising efforts with several squadrons and units on base.
“As of right now, we have $68,037.37, but we will still accept donations until the end of the year,” McIntyre said.
Coordinators are still accepting donations until January and predict the total to exceed $70,000.
“$70,000 is huge and will help these people,” McIntyre said. “Especially during the holidays.”
