ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. -- The Alpha Warrior Challenge regional competition is coming to the Ellsworth Dakota’s Club Aug. 4-5, 2017.
The challenge is a high-intensity obstacle course inspired by NBC’s American Ninja Warrior.
The event is hosted by the 28th Force Support Squadron, is open to military ID card holders who want to take their fitness to another level.
“It’s a great fitness opportunity for people challenge themselves with a little healthy competition and it should be a fun event for everyone,” said Capt. Meghan Cummings, the sustainment services flight chief assigned to the 28th FSS.
Participants can sign up to compete Aug. 5 from 10 to 12:30 p.m. at the Dakota’s Club.
Once everyone is signed up, Alpha Warrior Professional athletes Kevin Klein and Barclay Stockett, who have both participated on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior, will host a workout at the Pride Hangar and demonstrate how to navigate the obstacle course.
The competition is taking place at more than 40 installations worldwide and is divided into 15 regions. Ellsworth is competing in the Plains region against Malmstrom AFB, Minot AFB, Grand Forks AFB and Offut AFB.
The top male and female qualifiers with the fastest times will to go on to compete in the final round at Joint Base San Antonio in November and possibly take home the title of Alpha Warrior.
The athletes will be on hand for an autograph signing Aug. 4 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Base Exchange and stop by the Dakota’s Club meet and greet from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
There will also be a bouncy castle and a mini obstacle course for children ages 12 and under, so younger thrill seekers can compete in the event.
“This is something totally different and unique is coming to Ellsworth,” said Carrie Brewer, the marketing director assigned to 28th FSS. “We have never hosted anything like this before and I think this is something to get our Airmen and their families together and involved in the base community.”
