ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE -- In celebration of Halloween, Ellsworth Airmen and their families attended a free Trunk or Treat event at the Pride Hangar parking lot on Oct. 26.

Volunteers were present to display their decorated trunks and hand out sweets to children in costumes.

Additionally, there were several larger vehicles on display. The 28th Logistics Readiness Squadron decorated a “Nightmare Before Christmas” themed trailer; the base youth center created a haunted house experience on a school bus; and the 28th Medical Group ambulance services flight displayed an underwater themed ambulance.

“There was a great turn out this year; we expected 1,500 to 2,000 [people],” said Tech. Sgt. John Perea, a 28th Civil Engineer Squadron water and fuel maintenance supervisor and event facilitator. “Last year we ran out of candy during the first two-thirds of the event, so this year we bought a lot more candy.”

Defenders from the 28th Security Forces Squadron and firefighters from the 28th Civil Engineer Squadron were also in attendance handing out candy to excited children.

“Events like this are important for the morale and [enjoyment] of the [Ellsworth community] and hopefully we can continue to hold events like this in the years to come,” said Perea.
