AFGSC commander holds headquarters all call

Gen. Tim Ray, Air Force Global Strike Command commander, held an all call for AFGSC headquarters staff March 10, at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana.

Starting with a review of 2019 accomplishments, Ray highlighted achievements made across the command – including the nine wings and two numbered air forces. Many of these accomplishments showcase the dominant hand the command is building in regards to the return of great power competition.

“We have gotten the short end of the stick in a lot of ways, but that’s not the case anymore” Ray said. “If we can do those things in a year, what can we do in another two?”

According to Ray, the command’s focus for 2020 is excellence, building teams and valuing people.

“I am absolutely convicted that this is the right strategy. This will always be about teams. It absolutely has to be about people. I’m more connected to this now than I was the first time,” Ray added.

These focus areas stem from the 2020 Vision and Beyond strategic plan released command wide in October 2019. This plan details actions and executions that will allow the Total Force team to reorient, reinvent and reimagine in order to build margin and adaptability into the command’s programs, both old and new.

With the success of major milestones from 2019 still fresh in the minds of the command’s Airmen, Ray assured them that there is more to come and overcome in the year ahead.

“You’ve done so superbly as a team,” Ray said. “We do something no one else can do.”

Last year was a successful year for the command, but 2020 will be a critical year, he said. Ray concluded the call by sharing how honored he is to lead such an exceptional team, and by asking AFGSC to continue to be bold and innovative in the months ahead.
