Keying in on the importance of standing for truth, Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio, Archbishop for the Military Services, addressed those attending the National Prayer Luncheon at the Dakota's Club, May 14.

Broglio emphasized the importance standing for truth, even when it is not popular, and how we should respect the freedom of conscience that we all have in this country outlined in the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

"We are fortunate to have the freedom of conscience here in this country, "said Broglio. "That means we are free to our beliefs and practices upon those beliefs."

The archbishop also had the opportunity to tour a few areas around the base following the prayer breakfast.

Prayer breakfasts began in the 1940s when leaders of the U.S. Senate began to meet informally for conversation and prayer. The breakfasts sought divine guidance for national leadership and emphasized leaders' dependence through their faith.

At present time, national prayer breakfasts and luncheons are conducted each year across the country in most states and military installations.
