Prescription disposal April 27 Published March 15, 2013 By Capt. Richard Boyd 28th Medical Support Squadron ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. -- Ellsworth's pharmacy, the 28th Security Forces Squadron and the Drug Enforcement Administration are participating in National Take-Back Day, April 27. Airmen, their families and civilians who have accumulated unwanted, unused or expired medications or over-the-counter drugs - including controlled substances - may drop them off anonymously at the base commissary from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Proper disposal of medication helps guard against accidental poisonings or overdoses. Other disposal methods, such as throwing them in the trash, pose potential safety and health hazards. If individuals are unable to dispose of their prescription drugs at the commissary, they may also take them to the Rapid City Public Safety Building, located at 300 Kansas Street in Rapid City, any day. In addition, the 28th Medical Group has a medication return box located in the clinic lobby. The clinic's return box cannot accept controlled substances. For more information, call Capt. Richard Boyd, 28th Medical Support Squadron ambulatory care pharmacist, at (605) 385-3250. For additional drop-off locations, visit www.dea.gov or call the DEA headquarters at (800) 882-9539.
