The tension was high when two soccer teams comprised of Airmen from the 28th Civil Engineer Squadron went toe to toe, Dec. 11, in the Pride Hangar.

CE team A, who is second place in the league, kept the game close, but CE team B scored the winning goal with strong passing and ball control- ending the game with a score of 1-0.

Ellsworth's recreational soccer league provides an activity that requires both skill and physical exertion. Airmen from nearly every squadron are taking advantage of the many opportunities Ellsworth offers and are participating in intramural sports and staying physically active.

Senior Airman Scott Greco, 28th CES explosive ordnance disposal journeyman and goalie for CE team A said it is important for him to be able to participate in his sport of choice.

"I like getting out with the squadron - it keeps me active outside of just physical training," Greco said. "It also builds camaraderie. Working in EOD, we don't get out of the squadron as much as other flights. This allows me to be around the others in my squadron in a less formal fashion."

Capt. Darian Nastvogel, 28th Bomb Wing assistant chief of wing plans and programs, said there are many advantages to getting involved with not only soccer, but other sports as well.

"Soccer is a thinker's game, you've got to be able to think on your feet," Nastvogel said. "It has benefits to improve your ability to think quicker and to think as a team. The more people that participate in sports, the better. It develops morale, camaraderie and good fitness."

The 28th Force Support Squadron provides an array of opportunities for Airmen residing at Ellsworth to recreationally participate in intramural sports. Some of the sports include flag football, outdoor and indoor soccer, racquetball, bowling, basketball and more.
