Traffic Violation

QUESTION

There is a traffic issue at the main gate that needs attention. After clearing the security forces personnel, people in the right-most entrance lane keep cutting over to the left instead of staying in their lane. Their lane says "ONLY" and is a solid white line meaning they should not be crossing over. Since there is such a short amount of road to cross over in, sooner or later someone is going to cut to the left and there will be an accident. Request traffic be kept in their respective lanes by installing removable poles in the asphalt (in case they have to be removed for special purposes) and a traffic sign be installed well before the gate to let people know what lane they should get in depending on which direction they are going once they get on base. Thank you.

  RESPONSE

Correct, inbound traffic in the right hand lane must turn right only, as indicated by the solid white line and painted turn arrow. Snow removal operations prevent use of removable posts. However, we will place traffic cones along the lanes to prevent lane crossing during peak hours. We will consider your suggestion to install a turn only traffic sign at the next Traffic Safety Board.
