QUESTION

Sir,

I wanted to give a suggestion for the childrens play area in the gym. I have two children of my own and at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska we had an Arctic Oasis which had mini golf, pool tables, computes, hair cut place, WiFi, wall climbing, Wii, tables and chairs and the best part was the little gym area which consisted of treadmills, ellipticals, some free weights and bicycles and then right infront was a play area for the children. The playground had monkey bars, 2-3 slides and they also had a toddler area for little children to play. This allowed the parents to work out and let the children have the opportunity to play and wear themselves out and the parents could still keep an eye on them. It was a great place for birthday parties, get togethers for deployed spouses and their children. Every time we took our children to the Arctic Oasis it was always busy and plenty of children running around and playing. Thank you for your time.

  RESPONSE

Thanks for your suggestion for a Child/Parent Area at the Bellamy Fitness Center. The AF recently provided some funds to renovate our fitness center here at Ellsworth, and portions of this project will include enhancements to the Parent/Child Area. Our Force Support Squadron and Civil Engineers are currently in the initial design stages, and your suggestions will certainly aid us developing our plan. Due to limited space, you may not see a full-scale playground facility like other larger bases, but we have allocated additional square footage to incorporate other recreational opportunities for the children. This issue is one of our wing priorities and I am excited to see it through.
