Members of the 28th Force Support Squadron officially opened the base garden plots during a ribbon cutting event May 8.

Maj. David Burnett, 28th FSS commander, who cut the ribbon alongside Richard Nelson, 28th FSS Outdoor Recreation manager, said the garden plots provide gardening enthusiasts the opportunity to spend time growing a variety of plants, flowers and vegetables.

"My daughter said she would like to come out with me and work on our plot," said Burnett. "It gives me an opportunity to spend some quality time with her doing something she's interested in."

Nelson said many Airmen and their families have already rented plots and have started gardening.

"Most of the time people plant seeds in early May and wait until the end of May to bring it out to their plot," Nelson said. "This gives their plants a chance to grow a little and that in turn gives their plants a better chance to grow."

The plots are located on the first dirt road by Roosevelt Avenue near base housing. There are 60 plots available and renters are limited to one plot per household for $20. Each plot is 10 feet long by 20 feet wide.
