Ellsworth Honor Guard

The Commander's Action Line is a forum for the Ellsworth community to make suggestions or voice concerns about Ellsworth directly to Col. Mark Weatherington, 28th Bomb Wing commander. Below, he responds to a compliment in regard to the Ellsworth Honor Guard.

QUESTION
Sir, On 27 July 2011 I attended a funeral in Hot Springs. The veteran that we put to rest was honored by our local honor guard from the American legion and the local VFW members. They provided the 21 gun salute.

But the real reason I am writing to you is that your Ellsworth Honor Guard provided personnel to play taps and fold the flag and give it to the next of kin. What an outstanding performance provided. Your honor guard could not have been more professional. Most of the family members broke out in tears.

I could not have been more proud of our professional Air Force members. Please pass on congratulations to these personnel for an outstanding job well done. Thank you so much Ellsworth for serving our country.
Col. Mark Weatherington

RESPONSE
On behalf of the men and women of the 28th Bomb Wing, and especially our Honor Guard, thank you for your kind letter and please pass on our sympathy to the veteran's family. We are grateful for the strong bond we share with our Black Hills neighbors, and honored that we can give back to the community in a small way through these ceremonies.
