Household goods affected by backlog

The heavy summer PCS season coupled with a critical shortage of over-the-road drivers has created a backlog of all transportation services until mid-July, and most likely throughout the summer months.

While the 28th Logistics Readiness Squadron Traffic Management Office requires a minimum of three to four weeks notice to get a household goods shipment picked up, personnel who are PCSing are encouraged to complete their 28th Force Support Squadron out processing checklists as soon as possible and report to TMO, located in Building 7510, to book the date for their household goods to be picked up.

According to a statement issued June 16 by the 28th LRS, "We ask that no one finalize their plans, such as home and apartment terminations, motel reservations or leave requests, until their household goods move dates have been confirmed by phone or e-mail from the vendor."

They also recommend people who are facing time sensitive moves to consider using a personally procured move if possible.

"A successful move is not a matter of chance," TMO officials said. "It is the result of planning and hard work. At the center of this effort is you, the customer, and the Traffic Management Office. To ensure a smooth transition, we would advise that you must play an active role in your PCS process and get things done as soon as possible."

They added that upon receiving your orders, start your processes immediately; it may be the difference between being able to obtain your requested moving dates and having to change your plans.

For more information, or to complete the required paperwork for government or personally procured moves, call TMO at (605)385-6597 or 5828.
