28th MUNS secures Air Force assets Published March 10, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Alessandra N. Gamboa 28th Bomb Wing Public Affairs ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. -- Airmen of the 28th Munitions Squadron performed a 100 percent inventory to track all arms and property, as part of a biannual inspection and standard procedure for assuming a new munitions accountability systems officer, March 1. The 28th MUNS Airmen perform biannual inspections in March and September as well as whenever a new MASO is selected. Only one inventory was needed this year to fulfill both requirements. While the inventory was conducted, using an Air Force-wide Combat Ammunition System, all munitions operations were frozen as 28th MUNS accountability technicians followed Air Force Instruction 21-201 to trace and record the locations of government property. "One of my duties as the new MASO is to ensure we strictly adhere to all necessary transactions and accountability practices outlined in the AFI," said Master Sgt. Jonathan Beauchamp, 28th MUNS MASO. Senior Airman Michael Kimbrell, 28th MUNS munitions accountability technician, said he knows the importance of following procedures in order to ensure Ellsworth assets are accounted for. "I'm aware of how important my role is," Airman Kimbrell said. "Not only am I part of teams who are accountable for all munitions stored and transported from here, but it's my responsibility to ensure no Air Force assets are being misplaced or misused." Sergeant Beauchamp said he has observed an admirable level of excellence in the Airmen who work with him, and that he plans to continue to provide that same caliber of excellence in protecting Ellsworth Airmen and property.
