With the sun shining overhead and a warm breeze blowing through the air, Ellsworth Airmen gathered for the annual base picnic, July 23.

The picnic was open to all base personnel, and featured a variety of free events.

"It's great this can be provided to all the Airmen on base," said Ellie Taliaferro, wife of Col. Jeffrey Taliaferro, 28th Bomb Wing commander. "It gives them the opportunity to relax, enjoy the fun and nice weather."

Mrs. Taliaferro encouraged Airmen to come out with their families and experience the different attractions. The base picnic offered events for children, a sand volleyball game, dodgeball, canoe and traditional tug-of-war, geo-caching, free food lines, a "Chiefs vs. Eagles" softball game and an ultimate challenge.

Capt. Christopher Newton, 28 BW judge advocate and one of the ultimate challenge winners, was on base last year for the picnic, but couldn't attend. He said he was glad to have the opportunity this year to experience it.

"I think it's awesome," said Captain Newton. "If we call ourselves a giant family then we need to all come together as one - and this picnic is a great way to do just that."
