28th Security Forces announce police week events

National Police Week is scheduled May 9 - May 15. This week was enacted by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, which decreed May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which this date fell as "police week," according to a Web site dedicated to the history of police week.

Airmen from the 28th Security Forces will be hosting a series of free events and all Department of Defense credentialed personnel are invited to attend.
  • May 10 - 12, Displays at the base exchange are scheduled from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. These include Military Working Dog team demonstrations, weapons displays and security forces vehicles displays.
  • May 13, a 5K run beginning at the Bellamy Fitness Center, to the combat arms training and maintenance building and back to the fitness center is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
  • May 14, retreat ceremony at 28th Bomb Wing headquarters at 4 p.m., where fallen security forces Airmen and fallen S.D. peace officers names will be read.
