New guidance on wear of the Air Force Physical Training Uniform and the Improved Physical Training Uniform was recently released by Air Force Headquarters from the Pentagon.

These changes are effective immediately.

Some differences between the previous PTU guidance and the new policies are:

· Shirts must be tucked into either the pants or shorts at all times

· Wear of the PTU or IPTU is mandatory during PT testing

· Combinations consisting of the current PTU and new IPTU are not authorized

· Saluting while in the PTU or IPTU is not required except at certain organized events as designated by the commander

· Wear of PTU or IPTU garments in conjunction with civilian attire when off duty is authorized, however offensive wording, graphics or logos must not be worn in conjunction with PT uniform items

"This message is very specific regarding PT uniform requirements," said Chief Master Sgt. Clifton Cole, 28th Bomb Wing command chief. "I expect all levels of supervision to assist our leadership in ensuring this guidance is passed down to our Airmen to ensure we're in compliance."
