Outdoor recreation rents equipment, organizes activities Published June 25, 2009 By Airman 1st Class Corey Hook 28th Bomb Wing Public Affairs ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. -- Are you looking for a summer trip to relax or equipment for an outdoor adventure? Ellsworth Outdoor Recreation Center may have it. Outdoor Recreation offers various trips in South Dakota and the surrounding states and has an array of equipment for rental ranging from kayaks to tents. "We offer a wide variety of trips every year and we want to appeal to each person's interest," said Gene Strong, Ellsworth Outdoor Recreation Center maintenance center clerk. "We have two trips per season and roughly eight out of state trips per year. Ellsworth's newly-arrived Airmen and seasoned Ellsworth residents have the opportunity to take part in one of these trips during a two-hour horseback trail ride through Custer State Park July 18th and August 22. Previous trips include professional sporting events, skiing, and river rafting. For seasonal equipment needs, Outdoor Recreation offers rentals including four-wheelers, mowers, tents, grills and much more. There is a daily charge, three-day charge or weekly charge on all of the equipment. "We have plenty of equipment and we beat out local vendors across the board with our rental prices," said Dave Routh, Ellsworth Outdoor Recreation Center assistant. For example a local hardware store's rental on a tiller is around twenty-five dollars an hour, whereas Outdoor Recreation offers tillers for twenty-seven dollars and fifty cents a day." Whether it's a horseback ride with family or taking a four-wheeler out in the Black Hills, Outdoor Recreation is willing to help.
