News brief -- free issue excess chemicals Published Oct. 21, 2008 By Eddie Newton HAZMART/CAP Operations site manager ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. -- With so many people deployed, it is getting tougher to get the job done here at home. At times, Airmen may feel overwhelmed with many tasks they are asked to perform, such as monitoring the HazMat and or HazWaste programs for their shop. At the HAZMART, we attempt to make it as easy as possible. Free Issue can save funds for shops across the base. When a person requests to purchase a particular chemical, HAZMART personnel will first check to see if it is available on free issue. If so, it can possibly save a shop a great deal of money. We will be able to fill the order for chemicals with the ones already on hand. This saves the base money in three ways: no unnecessary chemicals, savings on storage costs and no unnecessary disposal costs. It is a win-win situation for Ellsworth. For any questions on this issue or other questions about our processes, contact the HAZMART. For material questions, call (605) 385-4743 or (605) 385-1080; for waste questions, call 385-6602.
