The South Dakota Air and Space Museum is scheduled to host a 9/11 remembrance event, Sept. 11, at 3:30 p.m. here; the event is free and open to the public.

"In honor of Patriot Day, the museum lined up several events in memoriam," said Tech. Sgt. Steven Wilson, SDASM director.

Some scheduled features of the ceremony will be a flag-folding ceremony by the 28th Bomb Wing Honor Guard, a speech from Col. Peter Castor, 28th Bomb Wing vice-commander, and the unveiling of a new Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom display inside the museum. In addition, retired Air Force Lt. Col. Fred Swan will offer insight on his experiences during the decapitation strike of Saddam Hussein April 7, 2003.

Ellsworth leadership said it's vital to remember the tragedy of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on America.

"The events of 9/11 remain fresh in the memories of many across the globe," said Colonel Castor. "It's important we take time to recall what happened to our nation that day, as well as never forget the servicemembers in theater still in harm's way. It's fitting this event is held at the SDASM, so our Black Hills neighbors can also attend."

The SDASM is located just outside of Ellsworth's main gate. No special access or identification is required to attend the 9/11 remembrance ceremony.
