The Air Education and Training Command Special Duty Assignment team visited Ellsworth Air Force Base Aug. 18 to brief Airmen on aspects of special duty opportunities.

The team highlighted the importance of various assignments, including recruitment duty and military training instructor duty. This briefing gave Ellsworth Airmen an opportunity to ask questions and understand the necessity of special-duty assignments in the Air Force.

Master Sgt. Monty Mitchell, Air Force Recruiting Service Headquarters recruiter, spoke of his insight and experience as a recruiter.

"Seeing young men and women transition from civilians to military members is the payoff," Sergeant Mitchell said. "It gives you an unbelievable amount of satisfaction from your work."

An Airmen's previous Air Force specialty helps add perspective in their special duty and vice versa.

"Being a military training instructor, I share my Air Force experiences with trainees," said Staff Sgt. Scott Grubaugh, 737th Training Support Squadron instructor. "When my duty is up as an instructor, I feel I will have more to offer my peers and troops."

Special duty jobs also give Airmen the opportunity to see the Air Force from a different point of view.

"It gives you a chance to change lanes and try something new," Sergeant Mitchell said. "You potentially learn more about the Air Force and bring it back with you."
