Korean War's 58th anniversary honored by SDASM Published June 16, 2008 South Dakota Air and Space Museum ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. -- The South Dakota Air and Space Museum is in the beginning phase of planning a special display to honor the nation's Korean War veterans as the 58th anniversary of the conflict approaches; the display is scheduled for viewing from June 25 through July 7. Veterans of the Korean War or their families may donate artifacts unique to this era while the display runs its course and then, should the donators wish, the items will be returned. "The goal of this display is to honor our Korean War veterans," said Tech. Sgt. Steven Wilson, SDASM director. "We don't have a lot of artifacts from this era; however, if anyone would like to contribute to this endeavor, they are welcome to contact me. Memorabilia such as uniforms, equipment, diaries, scrapbooks or photographs are quite welcome and will add dignity and honor to this special display." Base leadership echoed the importance of remembering this period of military history. "We sometimes hear the Korean War referred to as 'the Forgotten War' in history books or documentaries," said Col. Pete Castor, 28th Bomb Wing vice commander. "But, I assure you our folks at the museum haven't forgotten it, nor have they forgotten our Korean War veterans. I encourage our neighbors in the Black Hills to contact Sergeant Wilson and become involved with this initiative." For more information or to contribute to this display, contact Sergeant Wilson at (605) 385-5188 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
