ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. -- As a precautionary measure, a portion of Doolittle Drive has been blocked off indefinitely.

The smoke stack outside Building 5902 was observed to be cracking on May 8. The inoperable, 95-foot structure was built in 1942.

Emergency funding for its demolition has been sought. Daily observations of the structure are underway.
