Blood drive Published March 15, 2007 By Tech. Sgt. Steven Wilson 28th Bomb Wing Public Affairs ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. -- There are only two pints of type-O blood left at the United Blood Services Center as of March 14. United Blood Services is initiating a short-notice, emergency blood donation initiative and is asking Ellsworth for assistance. "O-negative is the blood that's used in ambulances and emergency rooms," said Nikki Heier, United Blood Services donor recruitment representative. "It's the universal blood type and extremely important that we have enough for the hospitals." The United Blood Services will be at the Base Exchange from 10:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 16. Ms. Heier may be contacted at her United Blood Services office at 342-8585 or 605-848-0845. She can be e-mailed at dheier@bloodsystems.org
