The holidays are still happening for families at Ellsworth!

On Nov. 29, the local community and the non-profit Camp Together Living a Challenge (TLC) hosted a holiday-themed event for military families who were in need of a little extra cheer this year.

Camp SoDak HeArts Candyland Christmas was held in the parking lot of Storybook Island – a local attraction in nearby Rapid City. The event was drive thru only due to COVID-19 restrictions, but that didn’t stop any of the Christmas glee.

“Events like this are important because it connects us with the larger community,” said Loretta Vega, the 28th Mission Support Group deputy commander. “It brings together multiple local volunteers and agencies to offer the events [for families].”

Each stop of the drive thru was festively decorated, and volunteers were decked out in their holiday best. Families were given craft kits to complete at home, as well as movie night kits, and gifts with wrapping materials for all family members. There was also a display with animals.

“The main impact is to add a little joy to the holiday season, especially in a time where families are not together,” added Vega.

Over 20 military families were able to participate in Camp SoDak – a true example of what the holidays are all about.
