ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE -- Senior Airman Jonasia Nance, 28th Communications Squadron cyber system operations technician, advances Striker Culture through Raider Culture and introduces new Airmen to the 28th Bomb Wing’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) organization.
Ellsworth is Nance’s first duty station and she spoke about how she has been able to make a difference by welcoming new Airmen on base during the First term Airman’s Course and and representing the DEI organization.
“I took part in helping organize outreach events to encourage making positive connections, stepping outside one's comfort zone, and building relationships within the FTAC setting, to the Airmen to recognize and appreciate their differences in a way that's conducive to teamwork and collaboration.”
Nance also shared her perspective on the growth of Black Americans and Black Culture. “African Americans were brought here centuries ago as slaves,” said Nance. “Once we were able to overcome that and were freed, we built on that, a culture to be seen as true Americans, Black Americans.”
February is recognized as National Black History Month; the 28th Bomb Wing celebrates the heritage, courage, determination and skill of Black American Airmen and Guardians who serve and have served.
Nance Concluded with this final thought “Although we have various months of recognition for many minority groups, their impacts can and should be acknowledged throughout the year as an important part of American heritage as a whole.”
