Three U.S. Air Force dependents affiliated with Ellsworth Air Force Base were awarded scholarships from the Team Ellsworth Spouse’s Club (TESC), at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota, May 11, 2023.

The TESC scholarship is awarded once a year, and this year each recipient is given $1,500.

“Our scholarship is amazing because it gears towards the military families,” said Leah Parker, the scholarship chair for TESC. “A lot of spouses can’t really qualify for in-state scholarships because we’re military and we move all over the place. We are one scholarship that helps pinpoint that missing part.”

Kyler Sloan, Alanna Dahlman, and Grace Stevens were selected for the awards. Sloan, a new military spouse, is using her scholarship to continue towards a master’s degree in marine biology in North Carolina while her husband continues to serve at Ellsworth.

“This scholarship will be really helpful,” said Sloan. “By having my tuition helped with, it makes it easier for [my spouse and I] to see each other since we have to be apart for a little bit.”

Stevens could not be in attendance but will be awarded her scholarship shortly. Dahlman, a recent high school graduate, plans to attend culinary school in New York this fall, and says the scholarship will help with her upcoming move, and freshman year in college.
