Col. Erick D. Lord has been selected to take command of the 28th Bomb Wing during a change of command ceremony scheduled for later this month.

Lord is a seasoned B-1B Weapon Systems Officer bringing extensive bomber experience to his new command. His career has been deeply rooted in the B-1 community, culminating in command of the 9th Bomb Squadron at Dyess AFB, Texas, where he led B-1 combat operations. Earlier, he honed his expertise as a flight commander and evaluator weapon systems officer with the 37th Bomb Squadron at Ellsworth AFB.

While most recently serving as deputy commander of the 2d Bomb Wing at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, his responsibilities encompassed the readiness of 28 B-52H Stratofortress aircraft and the well-being of over 9,200 personnel. This broad leadership experience, combined with his dedicated service as a B-1 WSO, makes him ideally suited for his new wing command.

Colonel Lord received his commission from the U.S. Air Force Officer Training School in 2002 and is a master navigator who has accumulated more than 2,600 flight hours, including combat missions supporting Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, FREEDOM'S SENTINEL, and INHERENT RESOLVE.
