The Department of Defense has transitioned to only using acceptable identity documents as listed in Subsection 2.7 of the Federal Information Processing Standards Publication 201-2 for DOD ID card issuance.

For initial DOD ID card issuance, two forms of identity documents are required. The Real-Time Automated Personnel Identification System will only accept identity documents that are not expired or cancelled.

For DOD ID card reissuance and renewal, two forms of identity documents are required. RAPIDS will not accept expired or cancelled documents. The only acceptable expired secondary source document is a DOD ID card.

Family members, 21 years of age or older, must have two forms of identity documents that are not expired or cancelled. The only acceptable expired secondary source document is a DOD ID card.

Driver's licenses must be unexpired, unless the driver's license expiration date is blank or indicates military. For those states with military exemption you must provide the military exemption card with the driver's license.
