Ellsworth makes preparations for annual Pumpkin Patrol

ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. -- Ellsworth will host the annual Pumpkin Patrol in base housing Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Pumpkin Patrol is made up of volunteers from the base population with the goal of ensuring the safety and security of trick-or-treaters and Ellsworth families during Halloween night.

"Volunteers from the base will be broken down into assigned sectors, conducting walking patrols of Ellsworth [AFB] housing areas during a specified period of time," said Tech Sgt. Purnell Smith, 28th Security Forces Squadron operations NCO in charge.

The deadline to sign up as a volunteer is Oct. 30.

Trick-or-treating is scheduled to take place in Rushmore and Prairie View Housing areas.

"Families coming from off-base should plan on parking in the 28th Medical Group parking lot to trick-or-treat in Rushmore housing," Smith said. "Parking for Prairie View housing will be at the softball field parking lot, and parking for Black Hills housing will be located at the Balfour Beatty housing office."

For more information or to volunteer, contact Smith at purnell.smith@us.af.mil, or call (605) 385-6087.
