The 28th Bomb Wing command chief treated Airmen to a free event for Airmen, which included lunch and a trap and skeet shoot, July 23.

Chief Master Sgt. Kevin Peterson has accommodated two events like this in an effort to showcase the many outdoor recreation facilities to Airmen.

In trap shooting, targets are launched from a single "house" or machine away from the shooter. In comparison, with skeet shooting, targets are launched from two "houses," and the paths of the disks intersect in front of the shooter.

Airman 1st Class Cole Barnhart, 28th Operations Support Squadron aircrew flight equipment technician, said this was the first trap and skeet event he has participated in.

"I usually shoot about twice a year," Barnhart said. "I'm a gun lover and grew up around things like this."

Peterson, an avid shooter and archer, enjoys hosting any event that allows him to interact with Airmen and get them involved with the base and local community.

"The four Pillars of Resiliency includes the social pillar, and a lot of times, Airmen don't get the chance to get out and experience something like this," Peterson said. "We try to get the social pillar in while doing outdoor activities like this."

In addition to the social aspect of the trap and skeet event, it also provided the Airmen a chance to try something new.

"A lot of Airmen come from large cities and are dropped into Ellsworth, so this gives them a chance to do something they've never done before," Peterson said.
