The 28th Bomb Wing recently celebrated nationally recognized Police Week, with the 28th Security Forces Squadron hosting various events such as a shoot-house competition, sports tournaments and a retreat ceremony May 11 through 16.

Police Week was established in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officer's Memorial Day, and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.

"This year, the base participated in a shoot-house competition, weapons displays, a retreat ceremony, golf tournament and softball tournament," said David Donnelly, 28th SFS flight chief. "Police Week is meant to honor the law enforcement officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while performing their duties."

Each year, more than 40,000 people and law enforcement officers around the world meet in Washington to participate in events to honor those who have lost their lives serving their communities.

"I would just like to thank all that came out and participated in the events," Donnelly said. "By doing these types of things, the community members can gain an understanding of the many different functions of law enforcement."
