82 CST change of command set for May 8

Command of the South Dakota National Guard's 82nd Civil Support Team will change hands during a ceremony at 3 p.m., May 8 at Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D.

Lt. Col. Pete Jerzak will assume command responsibilities from Lt. Col. Brendan Murphy, who has served in the position since May 2013.

Jerzak, from Rapid City, was previously assigned as the Readiness Branch chief for the SDNG Joint Force Headquarters before being selected to take command of the 82nd CST.

The 82nd CST is the state's all-hazard response team capable of detecting chemical, biological, radiological and explosive materials. The unit responds to incidents of local, state and national significance and provides support to civilian authority and agencies such as local fire departments, police/sheriff departments, county emergency management offices and other agencies of the first-responder community.
