The Airman and Family Readiness Center hosted a resiliency training course for military spouses at the Rushmore Center, Feb. 7.

The two-part course provided tools and skills to help spouses withstand, recover and grow in the face of adversity.

"Military families experience many changes and trials," said Dennis Wier, 28th Bomb Wing community support coordinator. "It is important that both Airmen and their families are provided resources they can use to help them overcome any hardships they may be facing."

The course consists of videos, informational slides and exercises focused on building resiliency skills and goal setting. In two four-hour blocks, each class provides in-depth instruction for those looking to strengthen their resiliency skills.

"I'm a new key spouse here and what I'm learning in this class ... will really help me help other spouses in our squadron," said Stephanie Sullivan, 28th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron key spouse. "It's always a difficult adjustment to go through something like a deployment or ... other challenge[s] that only military families experience. So, after taking this course, I feel I will be better equipped to help those who might be struggling with military life."

This is the first year the AFRC course was offered and plan to continue to make it available twice a month.
"We had a great turnout today and are motivated that our efforts to share this information with military spouses will help everyone on base," said Wier. "Building and having resiliency skills is not just for Airmen but extends to our families as well."
