New housing website launched Published Jan. 30, 2015 By 28th Bomb Wing Public Affairs ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. -- Base housing officials announced the Department of Defense recently launched a new website that provides military members, their families and DoD civilian employees access to non-discriminatory rental listings. The new website - www.HOMES.mil - provides public access to landlords, owners and property managers for use in marketing rental properties to military members, families and DoD civilians seeking housing at their assigned location. James English, 28th Civil Engineer Squadron Housing Office manager, said the new website features search and display options as well as Google maps, and allows users to save and compare listings, view photos and research housing areas. "This is similar to sites provided in the civilian sector, however property managers can use HOMES.mil to appeal specifically to DoD personnel," English said. He added that people will be required to register in order to access listing addresses and landlord contact information. "Registration is a simple, five-minute process, and any member can access the listings once they receive a confirmation e-mail from HOMES.mil - usually within two hours," he said. English added that the Air Force remains fully committed to providing members access to safe, affordable, adequate and non-discriminatory housing. "We will continue to provide referral and relocation services to military members, their families and DoD civilians through electronic, telephone and face-to-face customer interaction," he said. The Ellsworth Housing Office staff will continue to manage available rental listings using the enterprise Military Housing - eMH - application, a referral component which interfaces with HOMES.mil and streamlines housing office support actions by allowing housing office professionals to view or add amenities, cities, points of contacts and inspection updates. "Members and their families should to contact us if they have questions or require assistance with rental listings or with using the HOMES.mil website," English said. The AF housing public website, www.housing.af.mil, is still available and provides a venue for members to obtain specific installation information on family, unaccompanied and privatized housing.
