Airmen receive punishments

Airman 1st Class Kevin Thrash, 28th Operations Support Squadron, pled guilty to one charge of one specification of wrongfully using marijuana on more than one occasion at a special Court Martial convened by Col. Kevin Kennedy, 28th Bomb Wing commander, Jan. 22.

At the court martial, a military judge sentenced him to the reduction to the grade of airman basic, forfeiture of $1,000 pay per month for two months, one month confinement, and restriction to Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., for two months. Kennedy approved the findings and the sentence in the case Feb. 11.

A staff sergeant from the 28th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron received an Article 15 for damaging military property valued at more than $500 in violation of Article 108, Uniform Code of Military Justice. While on the flightline, he drove a government vehicle through a snow pile and damaged the front of the truck. Punishment consisted of reduction to senior airman, suspended forfeiture of $1,213 pay per month for two months, and a reprimand.

A senior airman from the 28th AMXS received an Article 15 for disobeying a lawful command of a superior commissioned officer in violation of Article 90, UCMJ, by violating a no contact order. Punishment consisted of reduction to airman first class, suspended forfeiture of $250 pay per month for two months, and a reprimand.

An airman from the 28th Logistics Readiness Squadron received an Article 15 for fleeing the scene of an accident in violation of Article 134, UCMJ. Punishment consisted of suspended reduction to airman basic, forfeiture of $500 pay per month for two months, and a reprimand.

A senior airman from the 28th Maintenance Squadron received an Article 15 for dereliction of duty in violation of Article 92, UCMJ, for failing to be available when recalled for snow removal duties. Punishment consisted of reduction to airman first class, suspended forfeiture of $250 pay per month for two months, and a reprimand.

A staff sergeant from the 28th MXS received an Article 15 for of dereliction of duty in violation of Article 92, UCMJ, for failure to follow a Technical Order. Punishment consisted of suspended reduction to senior airman, forfeiture of $200 pay per month for two months, and a reprimand.

An airman first class from the 28th MXS received an Article 15 for one charge and one specification of fleeing the scene of an accident in violation of Article 134, UCMJ. Punishment consisted of suspended reduction to airman, forfeiture of $100 pay per month for two months, and a reprimand.

A senior airman from the 28th MXS received an Article 15 for being absent without leave in violation of Article 86, UCMJ, for failing to show up to work at his prescribed time. Punishment consisted of reduction to airman first class, suspended forfeiture of $300 pay per month for two months which was later vacated, and a reprimand.

Airman 1st Class Justin P. Crist, 28th Security Forces Squadron, pled guilty to one charge with one specification of making a false official statement, one charge with one specification of damaging military property in excess of $500, one charge with one specification of operating a vehicle while drunk, one specification of operating a vehicle in a reckless manner, one charge and one specification of wrongfully appropriating a vehicle with a value of more than $500, and one charge with one specification of wrongfully leaving the scene of an accident without making his identity known. Without permission, Crist took the vehicle belonging to a fellow squadron member's spouse and drove the vehicle while intoxicated through the perimeter fence of the base, causing damage to the vehicle and the fence. He then fled the scene and later lied about what happened. He was tried at a special court martial convened by Col. Kevin Kennedy, 28th Bomb Wing commander, April 30.

April 30, a panel of officers found him guilty and sentenced him to be reduced to the grade of airman basic, to forfeiture of $650 pay per month for six months, and to be confined for 60 days. Kennedy approved the findings and the sentence in the case May 28.
