Guidelines for crossing over from hot to cold Published April 28, 2014 By 28th Bomb Wing Public Affairs ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. -- With summer fast approaching, the 28th Civil Engineer Squadron will be switching the heating system to air conditioning once the base experiences three to five consecutive 24-hour periods with daily low temperatures above 50 degrees. Turning these large industrial systems on and off or running the systems at a low rate can damage the units, cause water pipes to freeze and possibly burst. During this transition, facilities may feel warmer than normal. Base personnel are monitoring this and will make the switch once the safety of the equipment is guaranteed. If you have questions or concerns about the status of a facility, call the 28th CES Customer Service section at (605) 385-2580.
