Officials outline RC aircraft operating instructions Published July 31, 2013 28th Bomb Wing Public Affairs ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. -- In an effort to keep B-1 bomber crews and the aircraft themselves safe the 28th Bomb Wing Flight Safety Office requests radio-controlled aircraft operators take special consideration when operating RC aircraft near the base. In accordance with the Federal Aviation Administration Advisory Circular 91-57, the 28th BW Flight Safety Office requests RC aircraft be flown no higher than 400 feet above ground level when within 3 miles of the Ellsworth flightline. Additionally, RC aircraft should not be flown within 3 miles of the flightline when aircraft are visibly taking off or landing.
