Taking care of our four-legged military family members Published Aug. 16, 2010 By James English 28th Civil Engineering Squadron housing officer ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. -- Ellsworth family housing personnel have seen a steady increase in violations involving family pets. Examples of violations include unsanitary areas, nuisance or disturbances, lack of proper care for the pet and allowing the pet to run loose, damage to lawn or buildings- with damage to government property listed as the biggest problem. Pets must not present a nuisance or pose a threat. Violations of this nature can lead to the removal of the pet from Military Family Housing, if not corrected. Ellsworth Air Force Base is under contract with the Rapid City Humane Society for the purpose of picking up and boarding stray pets. Pet owners will be required to pay all fees associated with the collection of stray or abandoned pets. Anyone who finds a stray pet or would like to report a complaint concerning loose or nuisance pets is strongly advised to call the Housing Office at (605) 385-2568/2570 or Security Forces at (605) 385-4001, who will then contact the local Humane Society of the Black Hills, if necessary.
