AF Portal – one-stop shop for local information Published Oct. 2, 2007 By Staff Sgt. Sarah Corbitt 28th Communications Squadron ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. -- When the Air Force Portal was first introduced many servicemebers believed it was not user friendly. Airmen could not easily find the information they sought. Additionally, servicemembers had to still log into various Web sites, such as the Assignment Management System, Leaveweb or virtual Military Personal Flight, to conduct any online business. However, as technology marched forward so did the portal, changing processes based on customer feedback. More dynamic content was added with the goal of creating a "one-stop shop" for all Airmen. All programs and applications, which previously needed to be searched for, are now available on the main portal home page. One of biggest advantages users will find with the portal is that Ellsworth's 28 Communications Squadron migrated all local base information to the portal. Airmen now have access to all base in information with a single click of the mouse - simple, point-and-click navigation allows users the ability to locate information once posted on the base Intranet. The AF Portal also offers an instant messaging service, which helps Airmen keep in touch with friends and family around the world, especially in situations where a phone may not be readily available. Another new service offered by the portal is the ability to import web-page "favorites" from a browser. This feature will allow Airmen to take all their favorites with them when they deploy, PCS or just need to access them from home. As Ellsworth personnel log-in, they now have numerous information and the ability to retrieve it sitting at their fingertips.
