Ellsworth AFB: The man behind the base
Brig. Gen. Richard E. Ellsworth, former 28th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing commander, is remembered at Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., for giving the base its namesake. Ellsworth was killed in a training exercise March 18, 1953, when his Convair RB-36 Peacemaker crashed killing all 22 onboard. (Courtesy photo)
